Hello,
We have a male Betta (Mr. Fish) that is approx 2 + 3/4 years old and lives in a 2 gallon tank.
Since yesterday, he has been acting strange, my wife is pretty sure he ate a food pellet when she regularly feeds him in the A.M., But, when I tried to feed him in the evening (as is usual) he either was not interested in food or was not able to take the pellet - this is very unusual. On a daily basis it is sometimes difficult for Mr. Fish to take the pellet, but, on other days he gets it right away.
For the last day & a half Mr. Fish has spent a great deal of time at the bottom of the tank and also in the corner of the tank at the top.
The water temp. is OK (around 75 degrees). Tonight, I gave Mr. Fish a salt bath and gave his tank a complete cleaning, which I had just done 4 days ago. However, there were quite a few pellets in the tank so I thought they might have contaminated the water.
Mr. Fish also usually swims around quite a bit and also sits on his leaf and watches us - but he has not been doing either for the last day & a half.
Please, if anyone can let us know what the problem might be we would greatly appreciate your input. We have started to think that perhaps as sad as it would be that maybe Mr. Fish nearing the end of his life - but, we sure hope not!!

How many days do you treat a male Betta with most of the signs of Dropsy, before it becomes obvious he will not recover and it becomes time to put him to sleep.
We have given him several Salt Baths in the last two days and the Pine Coning has improved - but aside from an occasional very quick trip to the top, Mr. Fish stays at the bottom and mostly on his side.
We have put a food feeder in the tank to try and give him some nourishment. And when we move the water with our fingers, he does respond. His breathing varies from heavy to hardly seeing his gills moving.

Our Mr. Fish was greatly deteriorated this morning, he was barley breathing and totally unresponsive. My wife and I made the joint decision to use the clove oil and relieve him of his misery.
We are also getting rid of the tank and tank items, just in case of any infection.
In the hopes we will get another beautiful Beta - we will also get a new tank and all new tank items.
It's been a wonderful almost 3 years with our beautifull Mr. Fish and we shall never forget all the joy he gave us - we can only hope that he was a happy Beta and enjoyed being with us.
