Hi guys,
Some of you will have seen on Facebook the photos of the making of the new betta house. I'm going to post them on here too when I get a spare moment (spare moment? What is this?? ) anyhow, I just want to update you all.
We already had a 12' x 6' shed with electricity. It's a sturdy wooden one but was literally full to the brim with junk! So I've bought a cheap 10'x6' shed and have plonked that one in the front garden. I've strategically emptied the 12' into the 10'.
The 12' so far gas been cleaned inside, sealed with wood sealer/varnish to prevent any moisture inside from rotting the wood. It will also help slightly with the insulating. Then I've filled all panels with lift insulation up to the beams and placed floor fibreboard which is supposed to be a good insulator too over the beams to keep the loft insulating in. I've pretty much done this to all the Walls now and the floor has a layer of fibreboard too.
Next the floor will get a layer of waterproof material (almost like pond lining) - this will come up the walls slightly too. This is to protect the floor from any spillages. On to of the lining will be interlocking pads that you get to put gym equipment on. This will insulate and provide a buffer to all the heavy racking.
The walls are going to get a layer of polystyrene sheet on top of the fibreboard, and then a covering if adhesive silver foil to reflect light and heat around the room. It's going to be well insulated alright, but I know I'm going to have a problem with it becoming too hot. I plan to heat/cool the room instead if having individual tank heaters as I think it will be more cost effective. I'm going to get a heater/air conditioner that you set a temperature to and it either heats or cools to maintain that temp.
Photos to follow!!
Any thoughts on my ideas so far? Any hints or suggestions would be gladly welcomed!
Roxy
