This morning after turning on the lights in my sorority i noticed my CT female has a chunk missing out her face/head and my copper female is dead...the bite definately looks like a betta bite and the copper female also had a bite out her side also the size of a betta mouth, so my BN's are out the question.
This has got me down as the female had been planned to spawn with one of her sons!
There's been no new females in the tank for a good while so what could've triggered this attack? As they've been getting on just fine.

I had the same thing happen about 6 months ago no new fish in there. It has not happened again so im guessing that 2 of them got into a fight that got out of hand.

thats very disappointing maybe more plants might stop any potential fighting if they cant see eachother all the time they cant fight?

So sorry to hear this Nat :0(
My female sorority tank is full of Java fern and the girls all love hiding away in it. It's the only live plant I've ever had that none of my fish have ever eaten! I also have loads of Amazon Frogbit and they love hiding in the roots of that too. That has only thrived in the tanks that have the correct lighting though,- the Amazon in my Fluval Chi just seems to die :0(

I've found that lots of Anubias plants keep the females happy and hidden from aggressive females. I've just ordered a load in ready for my fish house (Each male will have his own plant) so the female's tank has 100 Anubias plants floating about in it. They absoultely love it! They're weaving in and around in it.
The best thing about Anubias and why it's a favourite amongst betta keepers is that it's pretty much maintenance free and very very hardy. You'll have a hard job killing it off and it's grows fairly slowly so no pruning.

Iv got java fern on bogwood and Anubias on bogwood in my community tank its great i find the java fern a bit of a messy plant when new bits grow on it, but the Anubias on bogwood iv had for well over 2 years and a few months ago it flowered i was well impressed with the flower but only lasted a few days then started to die. The seller i got that from on ebay had it imported from Asia and it was beautiful, but unfortunately he doesnt seem to sell plants anymore Amazon frogbit i just cant keep alive it always turns white and dies thats why i opted for the mini water lettuce which thrives and spreads with no care at all just let it get on with it its self! Need to look into getting some Anubias from somewhere.

Natalie, I can get you in some anubias. Just let me know what type. It will be £3.00 per plant.

Thanks Charlie i looked at the thread and added to it... ...i really dont know whats wrong with my girls right now as my CT girl that its nose biten has now had her side biten i noticed last night and meth blue bathed her and tonight when i got back from Oulton Park i noticed that 2 other girls are hurt and the culprit i thought was doing it has also been ripped up on her anal fin and my white girl has damage to her side also. They've been very nippy this past week, but i think its because my female numbers have reduced a little usually have around 15 but at the moment i only have 10 due to breeding atempts!

thats it, the fish are re organising the hierarchy now 1/3 of them have been removed. I find with my females as soon as i take the biggest female out the others start bullying the smallest female, which i then have to rehome temporarily, lol they are like tiger barbs, always figting to be top dog as soon as the natural order in the tank is changed a little.

I need to stock some more females as when i had a lot more numbers in there no one was getting hurt. Rox can you get the anubias on drift or bogwood? Im too lazy to do it myself? Something like this:
