I thought id start a new thread about plants so if anyone has any species they particularly like let everyone know! i really like anubias they are really neat little plants that grow very slowly and ive never been able to kill them. When i get my barracks up and running Im thinking about adding a anubias plant per tank so the fish arent being housed in a completely bare tank and whats good is because they are so slow growing they wont over power smaller tanks quickly - only problem with that is that if they die they will tend to block the return piping with could mean 300 litres of water slowly being pumped into my house lol - other option is plastic plants which i dont like but i think for safety reasons i will probably end up going with for the reason stated above. I have a load of java jerns in my 200litre but they have VERY slowly started to die over the last 12months - i just cant seem to keep java ferns and get them to thrive - mine just go slowly brown and die off. Nat - i also like the mini water lettuce (thanks very much for the ones you sent me , they are quick growing and large floating plants that i use in my breeding tanks to encourage infusioria - very low maintanence.

I've got loads of java fern and loads of Amazon Frogbit. The Java fern I bought many years ago and it was the only plant that none of my fish would eat. I used to have to keep replacing eaten plant so I was really happy with the java! It grows and grows and grows! I've had the Amazon Frogbit only for the past month or so. I bought a few plants and now all my tanks are totally covered in it! I have given loads away to friends,- but I'm going to have to see if my lfs want some too as it just takes over!

Moss balls are great, can be bought as big, medium or small balls left as they are or ripped apart to cover the bottom of a tank. I generally use them in all my tanks but especially in my fry tanks, needs light but nothing special.

i like the idea of moss balls in fry tanks -i was only put off a little because in my lfs they were like £4 each which i thought was a bit on the pricey side of life. i do like java moss for fry bur it does grow very quickly which is nice up till the point is starts taking over your tank lol
